Infernal pact

An infernal pact, also called a devil's contract, is the pact is between a person and a devil (or devils); the person offers a price (usually their soul) in exchange for diabolical favors. Those favours vary, but tend to include youth, knowledge, wealth, or power. A pact can also be made to create an imp familiar. Regardless, the bargain is a dangerous one, as the price of the Fiend's service is usually mired in wordplay and loopholes.

Warlocks

Warlocks of the infernal pact, the most commonly sworn of all the pacts, are those arcanists who forge dealings with the devils of the Carcereth, often exchanging their souls to a powerful devil in exchange for temporal power. Other warlocks of the infernal pact seek forbidden knowledge given to the mortal world by devils but since forgotten over time.

Infernal pact warlocks may lose much from their literal bargain with the devil, but what they gain is vast. Warlocks who successfully learn how to wield the powers of the Carcereth can turn the life force of enemies against them, and can master the fires of Carcereth for their own purposes. These powers require warlocks to possess a strong constitution, since they often deal damage to the wielder as well as the target. One of these known to all warlocks who behold themselves to the Plane of Chains is hellish rebuke, which scours the warlock’s foe in flames, which grow worse should the victim foolishly retaliate. Additionally, infernal warlocks with fiendish heritage may find their spells may be unusually effective against celestials or other truly good creatures.

Pact Familiae

Pact Ink

Pact ink is the specially prepared ink that a contract with the devil must be written in, otherwise the contract is invalid. Various recipes exist. Detailed instructions are rare. The basic recipe is the same as that for Iron gall ink.

Recipes

  • Aquarian Vitriol or Green Copperas (ferrous sulphate) - 3 ounces (85 g)
  • Rock alum - 3 ounces (85 g)

Diabolical signature

An infernal signature is the signature of a devil, demon or similar spirit, usually in order to sign a soul away.

Devil' signatures are designed to disguise their actual names. They are usually signed in blood. If there is a mass of signatures, they are usually signed in a circle.

All devils have their own signature, collectively called Seal of the Devils, and sign the acts of infernal pacts with them. These 'seals' (not seals in the usual sense, as they are handwritten) are lineal drawings, often complicated. More powerful devils often have more than one seal or signature.
