Giant

A giant (giant: jotunn) is a humanoid of prodigious size and strength. They are believed to be one of the oldest races of the world, descended from primeval creatures associated with chaos and the wild nature. Giants are often disgruntled at their current lot in society and commonly attack civilized areas out of jealousy, or survival. Giants tend to dislike the gods of men and love sacking temples.

Giants are more common in the northern lands, such as Midgard and Lorasia, or areas of large mountains.

Bardic tales commonly tell of giants as stupid and violent monsters, sometimes said to eat humans, especially children (though this is actually a confusion with ogres, which are distinctly cannibalistic). However, in some more recent portrayals, some giants are both intelligent and friendly.
