Deathsong Plague

The Deathsong Plague was the most devastating plagues in history, peaking in Nora between 877 and 891.

The Deathsong is estimated to have killed 30% – 60% of Nora's population. This has been seen as having created a series of religious, social and economic upheavals, which had profound effects on the course of Noran history. It took 150 years for Nora's population to recover.

This insidious disease affects even those normally immune to disease.

The Requiem

Just before the afflicted are about to die, they inexplicably being to sing, hum or whistle a song. It is always the same song and has been deemed to be a magical compulsion effect. No one knows the origin of the song or why they are compelled to sing.

The White X


A famous scene from the Deathsong Era is that of the painted white "X" on the closed gates of many communities. This X notified travelers of the outbreak of plague in that community. Some towns placed an X on their gate without any plague in order to prohibit those carrying the plague to come into their town.
